This dessert is about as simple as it gets, about as delicious as it looks, and as healthy as it sounds. With juicy citrus bursting from farmer’s markets at the moment and dark chocolate now practically labeled a health food, this guilt-free dessert is the perfect way to end a meal on a sweet note without slaving over the stove or adding dimples to your back side.  And its uber-quick prep time makes it the perfect dessert for an impromptu or after-work dinner party.  So move over insanely processed orange-infused chocolate balls – you know the ones that look like fake oranges that you break apart into mini chocolate slices (and was obsessed as a child) – a healthier, more grown-up version has arrived in town.

Serves 4

Two Navel oranges
6 ounces of good quality dark chocolate chips

Place a piece of parchment paper on top of a baking sheet and set near the stove. Over medium heat (don’t turn up the heat too high or your chocolate will burn) melt chocolate in a double boiler, stirring frequently.

Meanwhile, peel oranges, break apart into slices and remove any pith or strings.  Once your chocolate is melted, dip orange slices into the chocolate halfway, using a knife if necessary to smooth the chocolate and ensure adequate chocolate coverage. Place dipped slice on your parchment paper.

Once all of your orange slices have been dipped in chocolate, place the tray in the fridge for at least 15 minutes so the chocolate cools and hardens and so that the oranges are nice and cold.
