Goat Cheese Stuffed Figs

by Jillian on October 3, 2011

Post image for Goat Cheese Stuffed Figs

Figs are treat all by themselves. But then you stuff them with Laura Chenel’s herbed goat cheese, sprinkle them with fresh cracked pepper and fleur de sel, and drizzle over a healthy pour of local honey and, well, you have my favorite late summer appetizer!

Farmer’s Market Summer Salad

by Jillian on September 30, 2011

Post image for Farmer’s Market Summer Salad

When I’m burnt out on all the summer pastas I keep tossing together, I try to mix it up with a farmer’s market salad. I truly mean a farmer’s market salad because every ingredient is straight from my Sunday pickin’s at the Marina Farmer’s Market.
This one includes unbelieveably sweet early girl tomatoes, fresh zipped corn, mixed [...]

Summer Pasta with Corn and Squash

by Jillian on September 29, 2011

Post image for Summer Pasta with Corn and Squash

My new go-to meal this summer includes some kind of conglomeration of summer veggies and fresh pasta, all procured from the farmer’s market blocks from my apartment. The one photographed above happens to be my favorite combination – corn, shaved zucchini and yellow squash. Oh, and chunks of mozzarella. So simple and so delicious.

Post image for Summer Squash with Baked Eggs = Make it before summer squash is gone!

A few weeks ago, I came across a dish on The Kitchn called Summer Squash with Baked Eggs. A mouth-watering photo accompanied it (see above, looks pretty good right?) so I “pinned” the recipe on my current obsession Pinterest under Yummy Dinner Ideas.  Then this weekend, I spotted eight ball yellow squash at the farmer’s [...]

Rosemary Roasted Potatoes

by Jillian on September 27, 2011

Post image for Rosemary Roasted Potatoes

Doesn’t this look pretty? I wasn’t even planning to blog about this side dish, but then I saw how elegant the rosemary looked draped across these taters and I had to grab my camera!
I get little baby potatoes sporadically in my CSA box, including these baby red potatoes. I just sliced them, tossed them with [...]

Mushroom and Spinach Lasagna

Post image for Mushroom and Spinach Lasagna

I LOVE lasagna — it’s my ultimate comfort food  – and just one night of cooking results in numerous yummy, weekday meals. Oh, and it freezes beautifully so you if you are cooking for less than say, a football team, you can cut your cooked lasagna into individual portions and freeze them for grab-n-go lunches [...]

Stuffed Squash Blossoms

by Jillian on September 23, 2011

Post image for Stuffed Squash Blossoms

I’ll never forget the four-cheese stuffed squash blossoms I devoured at Town Hall five years ago. That appetizer is seared in my brain as the perfect summer dish and, until last week, I’ve always been too intimidated to try making my own. But I couldn’t pass up the “5 for a $1.00″ deal at the [...]

Oat Cakes

by Jillian on September 22, 2011

Post image for Oat Cakes

I’m OBSESSED with Heidi Swanson’s new cookbook, Super Natural Every Day. While I haven’t even made a dent in terms of trying all the recipes, I’ve found time to make her delicious oat cakes on several occasions. In case you haven’t noticed, we’re a little nutso for oats here at Farm & a Frying Pan [...]

Strawberry Shortcake Cake

by Jillian on September 20, 2011

Post image for Strawberry Shortcake Cake

Nothing says summer like a bright and cheery strawberry shortcake. I needed to prepare something for my friend’s birthday, so I followed Ina Garten’s recipe for a cake version of a strawberry shortcake. Doesn’t it look delightful?? It tasted even better than it looks.

Post image for Beet Greens & Potato Hash

This is a love letter to the New York Time’s Martha Rose, who wrote this amazing recipe for Beet Greens and Potato Hash.
Dear Martha,
I just want to thank you for coming up with such a clever and delicious recipe – that’s easy to boot! I say “clever” because you found a way to incorporate [...]
