I’m OBSESSED with Heidi Swanson’s new cookbook, Super Natural Every Day. While I haven’t even made a dent in terms of trying all the recipes, I’ve found time to make her delicious oat cakes on several occasions. In case you haven’t noticed, we’re a little nutso for oats here at Farm & a Frying Pan [...]

Nothing says summer like a bright and cheery strawberry shortcake. I needed to prepare something for my friend’s birthday, so I followed Ina Garten’s recipe for a cake version of a strawberry shortcake. Doesn’t it look delightful?? It tasted even better than it looks.

We took on Sodium Girl’s challenge to create dishes that are good for the heart. Now granted, dessert isn’t necessarily the best thing for your health, but if you are going to splurg (and who doesn’t??) then at least choose something that isn’t loaded with transfats, artificial flavors and additives, or salt. Plus, lots of [...]

Last weekend, Kele and I ventured out to Governer’s Island as part of our “explore one new thing” each weekend plan. Just a short 5-minute ferry ride from Manhattan landed us on the small gem of an island that has been the home to many-a-historic-event in the United States’ political past. But it wasn’t the [...]

This weekend, Kele and I partook in back-to-back nights of gorging ourselves. It all started late last week when I discovered that just across the street from our new apartment, the third annual New Taste of the Upper West Side would take place over the weekend. Bringing together more than 40 of the UWS’s best [...]

Since I have been living without sugar for a while now, I thought it would be a fun challenge to see what a crumble tastes like with my good friend, honey, instead. Turns out, delish as ever. This is a super simple dessert that uses ingredients you probably have laying around your kitchen. By the way, [...]

Show me a decadent, freshly-made cupcake and I could take it or leave it, but hand me a warm chunk-filled brownie (or chocolate chip cookie if we’re being honest) and I turn to mush. Something about the dense, rich chocolate that comes with each bite is almost enough to drive me to eat a whole [...]

This dessert is about as simple as it gets, about as delicious as it looks, and as healthy as it sounds. With juicy citrus bursting from farmer’s markets at the moment and dark chocolate now practically labeled a health food, this guilt-free dessert is the perfect way to end a meal on a sweet note [...]

Nothing rings in the holiday season quite like baking a batch of your favorite Christmas cookies. Something about mixing sticks of butter with cups upon cups of sugar and then topping it all off with added chocolate or frosting is pure bliss….and totally justified during the holidays. So to kick of the baking season, I had [...]
